Dr. Rachel Goldman, PhD
We’re upon the shortest days of the year and, like us, you may be feeling it! That’s why we asked our partner Dr. Rachel Goldman, PhD FTOS for her advice on how to get an often much-needed mood boost as winter officially approaches. Dr. Rachel is a licensed psychologist who offers stress reduction therapy and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at NYU School of Medicine.
“Shorter daylight hours can have a direct impact on your mental health if you’re not paying attention to the signals and taking time to literally see the light during the day,” says Dr. Rachel. “Making a few small changes to your daily routine can have a big impact on your mood.”
Dr. Rachel’s tips include:
1. Get outside during the day. Consider shifting your schedule slightly to get outside and exposed to natural light, even if it’s just for 5-10 minutes. Step outside, take a brisk 5-minute walk or simply take a moment to breathe.
2. Work close to natural light. Try to work close to a window if possible to get additional sunlight during the day. If you’re able, change your surroundings a bit to help give you renewed energy and focus.

3. Maintain your wellness routines. Maintain your existing wellness routines as much as possible to continue to support your energy levels. Sleep, nutrition and movement are all critical, especially during this time of year.
For additional nutritional support, consider Rae’s Multivitamin and/or DeStress supplements. Let us know how you’re handling the shorter days in the comments (we’d love to share what’s worked for you with our community) and know that we’re here for you. Keep shining!
