Research shows that art can help to relieve stress and relax your mind. To help spread positivity and inspiration, we collaborated with artists to create artwork reflecting what our motto—Shine from the inside out—means to them.
This week, we connect with artist Buckley.
Tell us a little bit about you.
I am an artist based in Portland and LA. I explore philosophy through a variety of media, and have spent the last few years focusing on public murals.
What does wellness mean to you?
I approach my wellness holistically, but I gravitate toward spiritual/self-knowledge practices as my most powerful source of complete health, because it provides me an intuitive understanding of how to care for my body/mind. My self-awareness practice naturally guides my self-care practice. A daily energetic meditation practice called tantra hatha yoga, an intuitive diet based on season, geography and listening to my body’s needs, and time in nature to center myself. To me, wellness is harmony of body and mind, when the energetic frequencies of the emotional and physical realms move in tandem rather than one resisting the other. So, for example, when I am feeling low-immunity, I look to my physical symptoms as expressions of my emotional experience, and I direct my healing first as a listener of my own inner world to find out what my body is asking me to slow down as pay attention to.
Why were you excited to partner with Rae?
I was excited to find that Rae’s products approach beauty as the relationship between the emotional and physical world, and that the supplements are supportive from the inside, rather than a superficial outer layer. I also greatly appreciate Rae’s ethics, it is rare to see Non-GMO and vegan beauty products.
What does ‘shine from inside’ mean to you? How did this come through in your artwork?
The message ‘shine from inside’ resonates exactly with the messages in my work and the way I care for myself. To me, it speaks to self-inquiry and self-acceptance work. We cannot fully shine outward if we haven’t witnessed and honored ourselves in the totality of our light and shadow within. In this artwork, I imagined all the different aspects of self finding appreciation and community in one another. The outer self, expressed as fully loved from within, makes their way towards an opening or a circle, symbolizing wholeness and connection with the outer world, now that they’ve found that connection inside.
