Do you ever hear the word “balance” and feel incredibly inadequate? You’re not alone. Life is a sprint—between work and home, personal and professional, family and friends, kids and self-care, it’s a lot. The pressure to find this “perfect balance” puts unnecessary stress on you, when in reality, balance is impossible.
Instead, we should start to think of life more as a “blend” rather than a “perfect balance.” A blend means you do your best, as often as you can, but it’s not a math equation where everything needs to be perfect – think of it more as a recipe that changes by the day, week, month, or year. And let’s face it—some days the recipe turns out better than others. But the most important step in creating your blend is to follow your instincts and cues for how it should evolve over time.
We’ve pulled together a few thoughts to help you find your “blend” during the final stretch of the year:
- Celebrate the small wins. Whether you’ve made it to a meeting a minute early, you made something healthier for breakfast, or you took a minute to take five deep breaths—make sure you give yourself a high five.
- Don’t finish your list. Everyone gets a surprise or two throughout the day, but don’t let it distract you. If something new pops up, decide if it should go to the top, middle, or bottom of the list—and put it there. Then, daily, continue to re-prioritize. You’ll find that the bottom doesn’t get done, because it wasn’t that important to begin with.
- Listen to your body. If you start to feel overwhelmed, exhausted or more focused on what doesn’t matter (stress) instead of what does (enjoying the season), it’s time to make a change. Ask friends and family for help. Eat the meal you’ve been craving. Do something that makes you feel more like you. Sometimes your body needs a little extra support, especially this time of year, which is why we created our Daily Cleanse Capsules to help balance your gut to support your gut/mind connection.
Truth is, we are all just doing our best. And some days we feel like we are just getting by, while others we feel like we are conquering the world … so make sure your blend works for you. Remember: you are in control, so enjoy what you’ve created.
