While sexual health is still an emerging conversation in the wellness landscape, at Rae, we believe it’s an essential part of overall well-being. And, according to the World Health Organization, “sexual health is fundamental to the overall health and well-being of individuals, couples and families and to the social and economic development of communities and countries.” Despite this, it’s a widely underrepresented topic, which is why we’re sharing a few considerations for supporting this aspect of your wellness below.
First things first, supporting your sexual health requires a positive approach to sexuality and sexual relationships alongside pleasurable, respectful and safe sexual experiences, according to the World Health Organization. Things like ensuring a proactive approach to supporting your vaginal health, exploring your self-pleasure and connecting with a healthcare provider can all help you navigate your sexual health and unique wellness journey.
Additionally, simply carving out time to nourish your body and mind throughout the day can further support your sexual wellness. According to psychologist Dr. Rachel Goldman, “if you’re feeling stressed and have a lot on your mind, it can impact your desire to be, and feel, sexual.” Things like taking a few moments to focus on what makes you feel relaxed and sensual, closing your eyes and inhaling and exhaling deeply or listening to your favorite playlist can all help. Or, consider weaving moments into your day that increase your energy—such as going on a walk, practicing a few simple exercises at home or incorporating daily supplements into your routine.
