Research shows that art can help to relieve stress and relax your mind. To help spread positivity and inspiration, we collaborated with artists to create artwork reflecting what our motto—shine from the inside out—means to them.
This week, we connect with artist Heather Polk.
Tell us a little bit about you.
I became an artist because expressing my creativity has always been important. I am thrilled to be working my current medium, collage and dabbling with abstract painting. My work is inspired by my experiences as a black woman, my curiosities, my son, the power of visibility (especially Black bodies situated in art), and I literally LOVE flowers and hearts. My career in healthcare sales and my art practice are an important intersection of my practice of wellness and self-care.

What does wellness mean to you?
Wellness is important in my life because health is wealth. I practice wellness in my life when I am staying active, eating healthy regularly and creating art consistently.

Why were you excited to partner with Rae? What are your favorite Rae products?
I am excited about this collaboration with Rae because women have to prioritize their health and continue to be advocates for themselves. Physical health and psychosocial care are equally important. Rae’s deliberate creation of products with pure and powerful ingredients is important to me. I am thrilled to collaborate with brand anchored in nutrition and self-love.
My favorite Rae product is the DeStress Capsules because I’m not an outwardly stressed person, but my stress tends to impact my body hormonally, resulting in increased adrenaline and cortisol. The ingredients are powerful and promote well-being on the inside.

What does ‘shine from the inside out’ mean to you? How did this come through in your artwork?
To me, ‘shine from the inside out’ means that LOVE within has no choice but to show up on the outside. LOVE emits a light that cannot be dimmed.
When creating this artwork, I represented the concept in the hearts, since they are symbolic of love. Love is a power we all possess and have the potential to positively impact our lives and those around us. The hand in the piece represents action, and love is an action word. The hand also reflects an offering, giving of oneself.
We’d love to hear what shine from inside means to you—let us know in the comments!
